Es werden Verfahren angewendet, die den Sicherheitserfordernissen entsprechen. Die wirtschaftlichen Anforderungen lassen oft riskante Verfahren in den Blickwinkel kommen. Es sollte jedoch neben der Kosten besonders die Sicherheit für alle Bauwerke im Vordergrund stehen.

The ground is one of the most highly variable of engineering materials. It is therefore not surprising that geotechnical designs depend on local site conditions and local engineering experience. The aim of these recommendations is to harmonize and further develop the methods, according to which excavations are prepared, calculated and carried out. Since 1980, these have been drawn up by the working group for excavations at the German Society for Geotechnics (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Geotechnik) under the name EAB and are similar to a set of standards. All the main software programs in Germany are based on these recommendations. The recommendations help in designing and calculating excavation constructions, unifying approaches to loads and methods of calculation. Since they are based on an approved global safety concept, following these recommendations ensures the stability and usability of excavations and their individual components. Furthermore, they help to improve the profitability of excavation constructions. The result is a work of major importance for all experts concerned with the planning and calculation of excavations.

Geotechnical Aspects of Underground Construction in Soft Ground comprises the second Fujita lecture, three keynote lectures and the regular papers presented at the Ninth International Symposium on Geotechnical Aspects of Underground Construction in Soft Ground (IS - Sao Paulo 2017, Sao Paulo, Brazil, 4-6 April 2017). The Symposium was organized by the Brazilian Tunnelling Committee (CBT) of the Brazilian Geotechnical Society (ABMS), under the auspices of the Technical Committee TC204 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The contributions cover a wide range of topics: - Deep Excavations - Interaction with Adjacent Structures - Mechanized Excavations - Sequential Excavations - Physical Modelling and Field Tests - Case Histories Geotechnical Aspects of Underground Construction in Soft Ground is particularly aimed at academics and professionals interested or involved in geotechnical and underground engineering. Similarly to previous editions, the contributions are a valuable source of reference on the current practice on the analysis, design and construction of tunnels, deep excavations and large underground structures, with particular emphasis on the development, effects and control of ground movements, their interaction with existing structures, mitigation measures and risk management. IS - Sao Paulo 2017 is the latest in a series of ISSMGE’s TC204 symposia, which began in New Delhi (1993), followed by symposia in London (1996), Tokyo (1999), Toulouse (2002), Amsterdam (2005), Shanghai (2008), Rome (2011) and Seoul (2014).

The aim of these recommendations is to harmonize and further develop the methods, according to which excavations are prepared, calculated and carried out. They help to simplify analysis of excavation enclosures, to unify load approaches and analysis procedures, to guarantee the stability and serviceability of the excavation structure and its individual components, and to find out an economic design of the excavation structure. For this new edition, all recommendations have been reworked in accordance with EN 1997-1 (Eurocode 7) and DIN 1054-1. In addition, new recommendations on the use of the modulus of subgrade reaction method and the finite element method (FEM), as well as a new chapter on excavations in soft soils, have been added.

This handbook provides a complete and detailed overview of piling systems and their application. The design and construction of piled foundations is based on Eurocode 7 and DIN 1054 edition 2010 as well as the European construction codes DIN EN 1536 (Bored piles), DIN EN 12699 (Displacement piles) and DIN EN 14199 (Micropiles). These recommendations also deal with - categorisation of piling systems, - actions on piles from structural loading, negative skin friction and side pressure, - pile resistances from static and dynamic pile test loading as well as extensive tables with the pile load-bearing capacity of nearly all piling systems based on values from practical experience, - pile groups, - performance of static and dynamic test loading and integrity tests, - load-bearing behaviour and verifications for piles under cyclical, dynamic and impact actions - quality assurance for construction. An appendix with numerous calculation examples completes the work. As part of the approval procedure for offshore wind energy structures, the Federal Office for Shipping and Hydrography (BSH) demands verifications according to the new Chapter 13 ("Load-bearing behaviour and verifications for piles under cyclical, dynamical and impact actions") of the EA Pfähle (the recommendations of the Piling working group - 2nd edition), which deals with external pile resistance for the foundations of offshore wind energy structures and the types of verifications to be provided under cyclical actions. The publication of the EA-Pfähle recommendations by the Piling working group of the German Society for Geotechnics (DGGT), which works with the same members as the piling standards committee NA 00-05-07, is intended to provide assistance for engineers active in the design, calculation and construction of piled foundations. The recommendations can thus be considered as rules of the technology and as a supplement to the available codes and standards.
