Imagine being so close to one of the characters in the Bewitched television series that you could twitch her nose. In Bewitched and Beyond: The Fan Who Came to Dinner, author Mark Wood shares his fifteen years of laughter, tears, and off-beat yet festive moments that he enjoyed with Kasey Rogers, who portrayed Louise Tate on the Bewitched series (1964-1972) that starred Elizabeth Montgomery, Dick York, Dick Sargent, Agnes Moorehead, Maurice Evans, David White, Erin Murphy, George Tobias, and Alice Pearce, among others. Each chapter explores a Bewitched episode in which Kasey appeared and the exploits Mark and their friends took pleasure in along with her. Together, they journeyed through her battles with about launching a Bewitched spin-off series, as well as Kasey’s several battles with throat and breast cancer. Mark remembers, “In my early twenties, I knew that I wasn’t overly good-looking and I wasn’t built like a Greek god, but I was funny. I knew that if I was ever going to make it in Hollywood I’d better have a good story. So, enter my favorite TV show of all time—Bewitched. Some may remember that Samantha and Darrin had a son, as well as a daughter, and his name was “Adam.” With that, I realized two more things: I looked like the love child of both Darrins and I could twitch my nose. Bingo, a sure thing! Wrong. However, because of my persistence, I became friends with many of the remaining cast members and their friends, but most especially, Kasey. She was the most amazing person I had ever met. She was so much more than her roles as “Louise Tate” or as “Miriam” in Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers On A Train (1951); she was a talented writer, a beauty who had two separate Hollywood careers under two separate names, and she was the creator of Women’s Motocross. Her friends became my friends, and I soon realized I was not in Bewitched but living what felt like an odd episode for the next fifteen wonderful years . . . complete with magic and sound effects.” 33 chapters. 208 pages. Available in paperback and Kindle editions. Forewords by Bernard Fox (who played Dr. Bombay on Bewitched) and Rose Marie (who played Sally Rogers on The Dick Van Dyke Show). The book also includes an Index plus many never before seen photographs from Bewitched, as well as personal pictures of the stars through the years when Mark knew them. About the author: Mark Wood is the co-author of five other books, including The Bewitched Cookbook: Magic in the Kitchen.

No one answered when I tapped at the back door of Madumo's home on Mphahlele Street a few days after my return to Soweto, so I pushed the buckling red door in a screeching grind of metal over concrete and entered calling, "Hallo?" So begins this true story of witchcraft and friendship set against the turbulent backdrop of contemporary Soweto. Adam Ashforth, an Australian who has spent many years in the black township, finds his longtime friend Madumo in dire circumstances: his family has accused him of using witchcraft to kill his mother and has thrown him out on the street. Convinced that his life is cursed, Madumo seeks help among Soweto's bewildering array of healers and prophets. An inyanga, or traditional healer, confirms that he has indeed been bewitched. With Ashforth by his side, skeptical yet supportive, Madumo embarks upon a physically grueling treatment regimen that he follows religiously-almost to the point of death-despite his suspicion that it may be better to "Westernize my mind and not think about witchcraft." Ashforth's beautifully written, at times poignant account of Madumo's struggle shows that the problem of witchcraft is not simply superstition, but a complex response to spiritual insecurity in a troubling time of political and economic upheaval. Post-apartheid Soweto, he discovers, is suffering from a deluge of witchcraft. Through Madumo's story, Ashforth opens up a world that few have seen, a deeply unsettling place where the question "Do you believe in witchcraft?" is not a simple one at all. The insights that emerge as Ashforth accompanies his friend on an odyssey through Soweto's supernatural perils have profound implications even for those of us who live in worlds without witches.

Based on author Herbie J Pilato’s exclusive interviews with Elizabeth Montgomery prior to her death in 1995, Twitch Upon a Star includes insider material and commentary from several individuals associated with her remarkable life and career before, during, and after Bewitched, including her classic feature films The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell (1955), Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed? (1963), and Johnny Cool (1963). Two of Montgomery’s many popular TV movies, A Case of Rape (which remains one of the highest-rated TV-movies of all time) and The Legend of Lizzie Borden (which will soon be remade as a feature film), were groundbreaking and remain classics. But Twitch Upon a Star also goes behind the scenes to explore Montgomery’s political activism, including her early advocacy for AIDS sufferers and the peace movement; her support for all minorities, including the gay community and the disabled; and her controversial participation as narrator of the1988 feature film documentary Cover-Up and its 1991 Oscar-winning sequel, The Panama Deception (both of which chronicled the Iran/Contra scandal of the l980s). The book also explores Montgomery's tumultuous relationships with her father, screen legend Robert Montgomery (she was a liberal; he was a staunch conservative), and her four husbands (including actor Gig Young, who later died in a murder/suicide). Through it all—and to family and friends such as fellow performers Ronny Cox, Sally Kemp, and Florence Henderson—she was just Lizzie: down-to-earth and unaffected, just like Samantha, the "witch-with-a-twitch" Stephens, her most famous role.

Although television critics have often differed with the public with respect to the artistic and cultural merits of television programming, over the last half-century television has indubitably influenced popular culture and vice versa. No matter what reasons are cited--the characters, the actors, the plots, the music--television shows that were beloved by audiences in their time remain fondly remembered. This study covers the classic period of popular television shows from the 1960s through the 1990s, focusing on how regular viewers interacted with television shows on a personal level. Bridging popular and scholarly approaches, this book discovers what America actually watched and why through documents, footage, visits to filming locations, newspapers, and magazine articles from the shows' eras. The book features extensive notes and bibliography.

Originally published in 1926, Here and Beyond is a collection of six short stories previously released in various magazines. Two of these tales, The Young Gentleman and Bewitched, display distinct gothic leaning in their emphasis on looming architecture and the slow reveal of hidden secrets. The first story, Miss Mary Pask, pays strong tribute to Edgar Allen Poe's Fall of the House of Usher with the eponymous character suffering from a 'cataleptic trance' which leaves her with appearance of death. In the resolution, Wharton deviates from the more cataclysmic solution offered by Poe, but retains an emphasis on the fragility of the narrator.
