First published in 1973, The Book of Eve has become a classic. When Eva Carroll walks out on her husband of 40 years, it is an unplanned, completely spontaneous gesture. Yet Eva feels neither guilt nor remorse. Instead, she feels rejuvenated and blissfully free. As she builds a new life for herself in a boarding house on the “wrong” side of Montreal, she finds happiness and independence – and, when she least expects it, love.

The remarkable career of American actress Eve Arden (1908–1990) is thoroughly chronicled from her earliest stage work in 1926 (under her given name Eunice Quedens) to her final television role in a 1987 episode of Falcon Crest. Included are detailed descriptions and critical commentaries of the actress’s 62 feature film appearances between 1929 and 1982, notably her Oscar-nominated performance as Joan Crawford’s sardonic confidante in 1945’s Mildred Pierce. Complete coverage is provided of Eve Arden’s work in the popular radio and television series Our Miss Brooks, and her later costarring stint with Kaye Ballard in the two-season TV sitcom The Mothers-in-Law. Also listed are her many other radio and television appearances, as well as her theatrical roles in such Broadway productions as Ziegfeld Follies of 1936 and Let’s Face It.

Encountering Eve's Alternative Afterlives: A New Reception Critical Approach to Genesis 2-4 aims to destabilise the persistently pessimistic framing of Eve as a highly negative symbol of femininity within Western culture by engaging with marginal, and even heretical, interpretations that focus on more positive aspects of her character. In doing so it questions the myth that orthodox, popular readings represent the 'true' meaning of Genesis 2-4, and explores the possibility that previously ignored or muted rewritings of Eve are in fact equally 'valid' interpretations of the biblical text. By staging analytical and dialogic encounters between the biblical Eve and re-writings of her story, particularly those that help to challenge the interpretative status quo, this book re-frames the first woman using three key themes from her story: sin, knowledge, and life. Employing a method of ideological reception criticism, it considers how and why the image of Eve as a dangerous temptress has gained considerably more cultural currency than the equally viable pictures of her as a subversive wise woman or as a mourning mother. The book thus offers a re-evaluation of the meanings and the myths of Eve, deconstructing the dominance of her cultural incarnation as a predominantly flawed female, and reconstructing a more nuanced and balanced presentation of the first woman's role in the Bible and her afterlives.

A Witness of Gods Faithfulness Marie struggles to grow in grace and guidance from the Lord while slowly recognizing her own rebellion. She intimately shows us the highs of her aviation and automotive careers and the suffering lows of abuse, bankruptcy, and divorce. Her relationship with God grows through it all. Eves Apple is a witness of how God gently guides one of His Eves into a slow freeing surrender of a Marys trusting yes. This is a journey of hope, faith, and real relationship! Joseph A. Marsigla, COL, MS, Commander, US Army: Some words that come to mind are warm, introspective, wonderment, I could go on and on. The talent God has given her has allowed me to look at my life, to look at things I have not thought of in some time. I see many parallels and similar struggles. This book is one of those rare jewels that can change lives. Father David Harvey, Senior Catholic Priest: An able storyteller and an adept communicator. She speaks with conviction and grace. Jill Savage, Hearts at Home founder and CEO: She has a story to tell, and she tells it well. Shes honest and open about the less-than-charming part of her story. Most important, however, she is candid and sincere about the work God has done in her life. Our moms were touched by her story, and I know you will be, too.

This book contains Doctor Lumpkin's translation to English of the extracanonical stories describing Adam and Eve after they were cast out of the Garden of Eden. Having lain in a cave in northeast Africa for centuries prior to their discovery, the stories are intended to clarify what became of the first ever man and woman after they succumbed to temptation. Although not considered canon, they have received interest by Biblical scholars who have translated the original Ge'ez into various European languages. We hear the stories of Adam and Eve as they navigate the wilderness and eventually settle down to form a family. Their initial departure is marred by Eve fainting in shock at the landscape before them: God, however, offers encouragement and the pair are able to venture forth into the great unknown. Various other characters of the Biblical canon are introduced - Satan, having followed the pair from the Garden of Eden, attempts to further tempt and lead Adam and Eve astray by promising redemption or an easier life. The challenge of rearing and raising children is also detailed, with the formative years of Cain, Abel and their twin sisters occupying several chapters. Frequently, Adam and Eve consult with God through prayer. The Lord, although still angered by his creation's succumbing to the forbidden fruit upon the free, intervenes multiple times to offer guidance through the hardship. God teaches Adam that the difficulties of hunger, thirst, fatigue and pain are to be a part of life, but in sympathy to Adam's plight offers a bough of figs to ease his way. An intriguing supplement to the Book of Genesis, The First and Second Books of Adam and Eve remains a text of some interest to Biblical scholars and adherents of Christianity.
