A murder mystery. A love story. A social commentary. All these describe The Sight of Blood. Set in a small Michigan town in the 70’s, the disappearance of a young woman and the murder of a beloved citizen seem to have no connection to the people and the officials of Grangeville, but to Jane Fleming, the town’s firs woman deputy, there IS a connection. But hampered by few clues, and the hostility of the townspeople and the sheriff’s department, including Sheriff Ralph Parsons, to a female deputy, Jane has to struggle to find the evidence of the connection. But supporting her is her lover Michael “Butch” Przybylski, a cocky mechanic and owner of a filling station in Grangeville. Jane with her passionate and barely discreet affair with Butch further shocks the townspeople. The sight of blood is also filled with the characters and homespun lifestyle of small town America, examined during Jane’s investigation and relationship with Butch; Tim Usher, the town’s newspaper publisher, who has his own feelings about Jane, George Robbins, who gets Jane out of a tight situation. These and other characters, plus the Michigan setting, make The Sight of Blood a fun and entertaining read.

Suddenly, the Sight of War is a genealogy of Hebrew poetry written in pre-state Israel between the beginning of World War II and the War of Independence in 1948. In it, renowned literary scholar Hannan Hever sheds light on how the views and poetic practices of poets changed as they became aware of the extreme violence in Europe toward the Jews. In dealing with the difficult topics of the Shoah, Natan Alterman's 1944 publication of The Poems of the Ten Plagues proved pivotal. His work inspired the next generation of poets like Haim Guri, as well as detractors like Amir Gilboa. Suddenly, the Sight of War also explores the relations between the poetry of the struggle for national independence and the genre of war-reportage, uniquely prevalent at the time. Hever concludes his genealogy with a focus on the feminine reaction to the War of Independence showing how women writers such as Lea Goldberg and Yocheved Bat-Miryam subverted war poetry at the end of the 1940s. Through the work of these remarkable poets, we learn how a culture transcended seemingly unspeakable violence.

I started writing these guides because I used to get extremely burned out in my old job and couldn't even handle finding and booking a hotel and flight or finding what to do when I did take time off (I could never have handled trying to plan a trip with the kids too!) So, I thought "wouldn't it be awesome if someone would write a guide that just gave you one perfect escape; the perfect hotel, spa, flight and restaurant." So that's what I did. I was lucky enough to live in Paris in my 20s and it's one of those cities that you can never "do", there is always more to experience. This is a very special guide as it was a trip I took with my two nieces (aged 11 and 12 at the time) and although we had a perfect escape it was daunting even trying to find an appropriate hotel for the three of us, and a little scary trying not to lose them, especially at night by the Eiffel Tower! I hope this guide helps you to give your kids an incredible Paris trip.

SHORTLISTED FOR THE WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION 2018 'A dazzling obsessive entry in a burgeoning genre. Unusual and absorbing... the novel as a whole exudes a strange consoling power.' – The New Yorker 'Sight delves into a lot in under 200 pages: mothers and daughters, birth and death, loss and grief, finding one's balance, the ardor and arduousness of scientific discovery. Readers willing to give themselves over to Greengrass' penetrating vision will surely expand theirs.' – NPR 'With visceral, elegantly wrought truths of life and loss, this is an exciting companion to Sheila Heti's recent Motherhood (2018).' – Booklist In Jessie Greengrass' dazzlingly brilliant debut novel, our unnamed narrator recounts her progress to motherhood, while remembering the death of her own mother ten years before, and the childhood summers she spent with her psychoanalyst grandmother. Woven among these personal recollections are significant events in medical history: Wilhelm Rontgen’s discovery of the X-ray; Sigmund Freud’s development of psychoanalysis and the work that he did with his daughter, Anna; and the origins of modern surgery and the anatomy of pregnant bodies. Sight is a novel about being a parent and a child: what it is like to bring a person in to the world, and what it is to let one go. Exquisitely written and fiercely intelligent, it is an incisive exploration of how we see others, and how we might know ourselves.

The Light We Lost meets How to Walk Away in this romantic and page-turning debut that poses a heartbreaking question: Would you choose love, if you knew how it would end? "Unique and breathtaking and painful and broken and perfect . . . just like love. I'm still crying, yet all I want to do is settle down and read it again." --Jodi Picoult Joel has sworn off falling in love. But when he meets Callie, he can't help being drawn to her. In Callie, he sees a second chance at life. And in Joel, Callie discovers the kind of love she'd always hoped was real. They challenge each other to take chances, to laugh, and to trust that no matter how hard each falls, the other will be there to catch them. But Joel has a secret. He dreams about the people he loves, and these dreams always come true. One night, Joel has the dream of Callie he's feared the most, and each must decide: Can Callie stay, knowing her fate? And if her days must be numbered, is there a life she is meant to live? Told in Joel and Callie's voices, The Sight of You is a sweeping, romantic, and unforgettable American debut, about the bravery it takes to love, especially when we think we know how the story will end.
