The Whip is inspired by the true story of a woman, Charlotte "Charley" Parkhurst (1812-1879) who lived most of her extraordinary life as a man. As a young woman in Rhode Island, she fell in love and had a child. Her husband was lynched and her baby killed. The destruction of her family drove her west to California, dressed as a man, to track down the murder. Charley became a renowned stagecoach driver. She killed a famous outlaw, had a secret love affair, and lived with a housekeeper who, unaware of her true sex, fell in love with her.Charley was the first woman to vote in America (as a man). Her grave lies in Watsonville, California.

When the gift was used for the first time to draw blood and then it was lost. The search was on as it continues through generations after generations until the present day where the Grineadi’s family, private collectors, foreign countries and two artifact investigators from the Vatican follows a hidden clue that takes them far from the truth and journey through the REAL DEAD-MEN’S CHEST. Winner of the 2020 Alfred Fagon Award. As the 19th Century dawns in London, politicians of all parties gather to abolish the slave trade once and for all. But the price of freedom turns out to be a multi-billion pound bailout for slave owners rather than those enslaved. As morality and cunning compete amongst men thirsty for power, two women navigate their way to the true seat of political influence, challenging members of parliament who dare deny them their say. In this provocative new play by Juliet Gilkes Romero, the personal collides with the political to ask, what is the right thing to do and how much must it cost?

In order for transparency measures to fight corruption, they must be paired with enforcement. Levels of corruption vary greatly around the world, with certain regions suffering from it more than others. Why is it pervasive in some countries, how does it weaken critical regulations, and why is it so hard to root out? In The Eye and the Whip, Paul Lagunes applies field experiments to analyze corruption in three countries: Mexico, Peru, and the United States of America. He begins by stressing that vulnerabilities to corruption exist where government officials hold power over both the provision of goods and the imposition of costs. Vulnerabilities turn to actual threats when officials calculate that the benefits of abusing their power are greater than the penalties associated with getting caught. Therefore, controlling corruption requires increasing the probability of detecting malfeasance through enhanced monitoring - what Lagunes calls "the eye" - and then applying the appropriate penalty in response to wrongdoing-what he calls "the whip." However, in the places where he conducts extensive fieldwork, which include a city in central Mexico, urban districts in Peru, and two boroughs in New York City, the common policy response to corruption typically emphasizes only the first of the two mechanisms. From bribes extracted for public works contracts to property tax evasion, corruption in these and other areas will persist as long as the authorities are unwilling to impose serious penalties after becoming aware of the problem. After examining how corrupt transactions unfold and why corruption appears immune to transparency, Lagunes leverages local collaborations to test a series of approaches that help promote accountability. Offering rigorous, evidence-based recommendations for improving public administration, The Eye and the Whip will be essential reading for anyone searching for effective tools to battle this age-old scourge.

A cruel and sadistic father beat his son with a whip from his early age through his teenage years. Anger, bitterness, and hatred grew as he grew. He developed a use for the gun, becoming proficient with speed and accuracy. He traveled west, meeting good people along the way who turned around his thinking about good against evil. He used his gun to help good people and law enforcement as he traveled through Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and finally settled in Wyoming—the state he longed to see—and started a family. But he wasn’t satisfied. With tireless energy, ingenuity, and the help of his family and good friends, he developed an empire that stretched from Wyoming to California.

The Doves and the Man with the Whip of Cords is a story based on the account of Jesus cleansing the Temple of the money changers from the Gospel of John. It is a dramatization using doves and ravens who encounter Jesus of Nazareth in a way that changes their lives forever. It takes a look at the sacrificial system of Ancient Israel that was replaced by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross—a better way of sacrifice for sin.
