The original edition of Yes You CanWith Gods Help! was self-published in 1991. The cost of printing two thousand copies in full color was $12,500. At that time, after Id left teaching, that was practically all the money I had, but I believed the Lord wouldnt let me fall flat on my face. When I was due to pay that money to the printers, I went to withdraw a small amount from my savings account, and there was an additional entry of $12,380! In our little prayer group, we used to say that in any endeavor its a team effort, but we need to do our 1 percent before we can expect the Lord to provide his 99. Months after the booklet (only thirty pages then) was printed, a friend pointed out that the $120 shortfall was 1 percent of the money. The Lord had provided 99 percent of the money, in mysterious circumstances, and left me to pay the final 1 percent. Thank you, Lord! In preparation for the publication of this expanded and updated Second Edition, at the Lords prompting, I had added to the original text five years earlier but was blocked from any further development. His perfect timing became obvious to me when I recently discovered what I consider to be the final spiritual piece of the jigsaw puzzle regarding goal-setting. I was able to include it in this edition. Again, thank you, Lord!

God would like a word with you What you believe about God affects the way you approach life—often in ways you don’t realize. Are you convinced that God limits you, or liberates you? Is he more interested in correcting you or connecting with you? And when you hit a rough spot and start looking for help, do you believe God is against you or on your side? In The Gospel of Yes, Mike Glenn reveals God’s most powerful word, which opens our eyes to everything he does. That word is YES. God said “yes” to creating a world for us to live in and “yes” to inviting us into a relationship with him. No matter what we face in life, the best way to live is captured in one word: yes. When you live in God’s “yes” you find your identity, your true value, and your unique purpose on earth. You can stop trying to be someone else and enjoy being yourself as you join with God in doing the work of his kingdom. When God looks at you he always says “yes.” It’s time to live like you know it. Includes Discussion Questions for Personal and Group Use.

This book is a vital resource for intervention programs, educators, social workers, counselors, psychotherapists, pastoral counselors, and survivors of intimate violence and their families. It gives the reader access to the inner emotions and psychological mechanisms of survivors of intimate violence in collective cultures that work to hold them captive in violent relationships. The author integrates the psychological developmental theories of Heinz Kohut and Erik Erikson with social, cultural, and religious aspects to demonstrate the collusive power of what she calls the orienting system (psychosocial and religious cultural force) in the formation of a female sense of self, to investigate the peculiar range of responses of females to intimate violence. Using theoretical and empirical research, the author claims that the demeanor and functionality of the female survivor of intimate violence is an adaptation that enables her to retain her socially prescribed roles, which she appropriates as a social identity and sense of self. A surprising aspect of this work is the transformative power of religion, also resourced in the orienting system, in transforming the psychic hold of survivors to cathected self-objects, to self-images that approximate a self in healthy relationship with God. Consequently the energies and investment released can be redirected to cohere in self-identities that can optimize drive, thrive and relationality.
